Spring and Summer 2005

During the Easter Holiday of 2005 some of us travelled to Bridlington Priory in Yorkshire where we gave a Saturday evening concert to help raise funds for the restoration of their famous four manual organ. We also sang Mattins the following morning.

On Saturday, 21st May we joined the South Holland Singers and the Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra at St Mary’s Church, Gedney for what proved to be a very moving performance of ‘The Armed Man’ (A Mass for Peace) by Karl Jenkins.

The programme also included ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ by Aaron Copland; ‘Toward The Unknown Region’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and Film Music by William Walton played on the church organ by Eric Wayman.

Our 19th Season ended on Wednesday, 6th July with another combined concert, this time we joined with Peterborough’s St. Peter’s Singers in the magnificent setting of St. Botolph’s Church, Boston. The programme included Parry’s ‘I was glad’; Rutter’s ‘Te deum’; Howells ‘Hymn to St. Cecilia’ and Tallis’s 40 part motet, ‘Spem in alium’.
One of the highlights of the concert was a performance of Morales’ ‘Parce mihi domini’ with the evocative improvisation of Jamie McDougall (saxophone).
